Sandholm, Denmark

The workshop in Centre Sandholm was our first real workshop. We had been testing AsylumHOME.net before in the Danish Red Cross Culture House in Copenhagen, but this was with user who had been working with
us from the very start. Sandholm was the first time we would introduce the finished system to  completely new users.

Centre Sandholm is the biggest asylum centre in Denmark, and this is also were all asylum seekers are brought to when they first arrive in Denmark. The centre has an Info Cafe with old Mac computers and asylum
seekers can come here to use the  internet during the day. The asylum seekers living in the centre take shifts working as administrators in the cafe and each person can use a computer for 30 minutes before they have to give it up to the next user. There is only about 8 computers available, so this rule is necessary to get time to everyone. .

We knew that this lack of equipment is a problem in many centers, which is also a reason why a common  site like AsylumHOME.net could be useful in terms of time. If you can find most of what you need (and communicate with all your friends) in one place, then you don't have to look so many other places.

The workshop went OK, even though there was too much trouble with the
old browsers.  The computers were running on completely
outdated software, but still this must not be a problem. AsylumHOME.net
should be able to run probably on all browsers so we had some homework
to do when we got back.

Another comment is that we would have liked more women to be in the
workshop. Only one woman showed up and we foresee this to be an issue
in future workshops. Just as it is the case with the world, websites
and workshops are more fun when there are both men and women
participating....
